Snapchat Planet – What Is It And What Is The Order Like?

Snapchat is the go-to platform for Gen Z and is also vying for Gen Alpha’s attention! How does it keep doing so? Well, mostly because it keeps coming up with new features relatable to this generation.

For example, have you seen the new Snapchat planets feature? Now, what’s that? Let me tell you, it’s something similar to the Snapchat emojis, but with a twist! Keep reading, and we’ll unravel everything to you in detail.

What are Snapchat planets?

If you’ve been a regular user of Snapchat, you’d remember their emoji feature. But if you don’t, let me give you a quick flashback.

It was a feature where visual badges would appear next to the usernames of people in your friend list. Now, these badges weren’t assigned by you but by Snapchat based on your relationship with those users.

By relationship, I mean how frequently you guys exchanged snaps, how long you maintained streaks, and things like that. The emojis will change regularly based on your interaction with your friends.

In 2022, Snapchat rolled out its Friend Solar System Feature, which is a perk only Snapchat Plus users can enjoy. Of course, it is one of Snaphat’s tricks to attract more paid customers, but before you swipe your card, let’s see if it’s really worth the purchase.

The Snapchat solar system is a representation of our original solar system. So there is the Sun and eight other planets- Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Sorry, Pluto, you are not a planet even in the Snapchat Solar system! 🙁

What is the Friend Solar System on Snapchat?

As I said before, Snapchat planets are similar to Snapchat emojis but with a twist. It also aims to increase user engagement and gamify your virtual relationships on this platform.

In this friend solar system of Snapchat, you are obviously the Sun, the center of your solar system, and your friends are your planets.

Your Snapchat friends get assigned eight Snapchat planets to them. There are eight planets in your solar system, just like the original one we live in. So there is the “Sun”- you, and your friends: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

The algorithm assigns which planet belongs to which friend of yours based on your interaction with them.

Yes, you can’t pick them, even if you are the one paying for the Snapchat Plus subscription! Outrageous right?

The more someone interacts with you, the closer planet to the Sun they get. So, in that sense, Mercury would be your top best friend, who engages with you the most on Snapchat, and Neptune is the last best friend on the list.

Now, this race for being the top best friend might not seem like an issue for grownups, but it can mess with teenagers and younger people.

Snapchat Planets Order and Their Meanings

In your Snapchat solar system you’re the glorious Sun, surrounding whom revolve the eight Snapchat planets. The Snapchat planet order is the same as our original one in the Solar System.

Technically, all of these planets are your close friends on your Snapchat friends list. But, just like some planets are a little closer to the Sun than others, you’d also have some favorites among those eight specific friends.

Now, let’s see what each of the Snapchat planets symbolizes.

Mercury

Source: Snapchat

This fiery friend is your closest confidant, the one you exchange the most snaps and chats with. They’re your go-to for anything and everything!

Since the planet allocation is under Snapchat’s control, make sure you engage with your best friend as much as possible to keep them as your Mercury.

This Snapchat planet is represented by a red planet with 5 red hearts around it.

Venus

Next up is Venus. Your Venus will be your second closest friend, with whom you share the most snaps but not as much as Mercury.

This Snapchat planet is shown as a light brown planet with five multicolored hearts around it.

Earth

Then comes your Earth, aka your third best friend. Someone reliable and down-to-earth (pun intended!).

This Snapchat plant looks exactly like the earth emoji, so it is pretty easy to recognize. But this friend also gets four red hearts, three stars and a cute little moon.

Mars

Then comes Mars, the red planet of the solar system. The friend with Mars on your friend list is your fourth closest friend.

They will have a red planet along with a bunch of pink and yellow stars and three colorful hearts.

Jupiter

Jupiter will be the person who holds the fifth position among the eight. They are your fifth closest friend.

This is the friend with whom you don’t engage as much as the previous ones but more than the other three. So they get this orange planet with a bunch of colorful stars.

Saturn

Then on number six, is Saturn, your Sixth closest friend.

The Saturn emoji would look quite similar to the Venus one only if it didn’t have the ring. Also they only get a couple of stars and no hearts.

Uranus

The second last on your Snapchat solar system is Uranus, your seventh closest friend.

They get a light green planet that resembles the actual Uranus in our solar system.

Neptune

Last but not least is Neptune, the eighth planet of the solar system and your eighth best friend. They might be the least active amongst all your other planet friends, but they are active enough to be counted as a part of your Snapchats friends solar system.

How Does Snapchat’s Friend Solar System Work?

As you already know, the Snapchat solar system is an exclusive feature for Snapchat Plus members. So to get the feature you first need to subscribe to this service.

Currently, it is $3.99 per month, but you get some good discounts if you get the six-month or twelve-month pack.

Once you get the Snapchat subscription, there’s nothing additional that you have to do. You’ll automatically see this private ranking on your friend’s profile.

How To View Your Planet Status

The display system of these planet badges is a little different from the Snapchat emojis I was talking about.

Snapchat emojis are pretty visible and are displayed on your chat list alongside the name of your friend.

But, in the case of this solar system feature, you are given a rank privately. Only you have that privilege to check this ranking. To view it,

  • Go to one of your friend’s profiles who has a best friends badge. The badge confirms that you two are one of the eight closest friends for each other. But if you only have the friends badge with them, then it means you are in their top eight, but they aren’t in yours.
  • Then simply tap on the best friend button to see which planet that user is in your solar system. To check which planet you are in their solar system, tap on the friend’s button. It’s that easy!

How to Enable Snapchat Solar System?

To enable the Snapchat solar system on your Snapchat profile, you first need to upgrade to Snapchat Plus. Once you become a paid Snapchat user you automatically get this feature added to your account.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to enable the Snapchat solar system.

Step 1: Access Your Profile

Open the Snapchat app and tap on your profile picture in the top left corner.

This will take you to your profile page.

Step 2: Find the Snapchat+ Section

Look for the “Snapchat+” section located just below your username and Bitmoji.

This section showcases exclusive features that are available only to paying subscribers.

Step 3: Activate the Solar System

Within the Snapchat Plus section, you’ll find an option for “Friend Solar System.”

There might be a small toggle switch next to it. If it’s grayed out, you likely haven’t subscribed to Snapchat Plus.

Step 4: Turn on the Feature (if available)

If you are a Snapchat Plus subscriber, simply tap the toggle switch to activate the Friend Solar System.

You might see a confirmation pop-up asking you to confirm your choice.

Tap “Yes” to unleash your inner sun and see your friends orbiting your social sphere!

Once activated, you can view your Friend Solar System by tapping on a friend’s Bitmoji on their profile page.

What is Snapchat+ & How To Get It?

Snapchat Plus is the boujee version of regular Snapchat with exclusive features for you to explore. It is a premium subscription-based service.

If you are feeling a bit vanilla with your current Snapchat, then here are the extra things you can enjoy with Snapchat Plus.

  1. Friend Solar System- We have already talked enough about this feature, so moving on to the next.
  2. Exclusive testing- Be the first to try out experimental features before they roll out to everyone.
  3. Crazy Customization- With Snapchat Plus you get to express yourself with a wider range of app icons and chat wallpapers to personalize your Snapchat experience.
  4. BFF Pins- Tired of your best friend getting lost in your chat list? Pin them to the top for easy access and constant connection.
  5. See Who Re-watched Your Story- Curiosity satisfied! Know who snuck in a second peek at your story.
  6. Post View Emojis- Spice up your story replies with special emojis only visible to Snapchat+ users.
  7. Data Control Features- Gain more control over who can see when you’ve read their messages, adding a layer of privacy.

Here’s how you can get it:

  • Go to your Snapchat profile.
  • Find the “Snapchat+” banner there. It might be right under your username and Bitmoji.
  • Tap on the banner and subscribe to the plan you like, and done!

Is Snapchat+ Worth It?

The answer totally depends on how much you use Snapchat. If you’re clicking and uploading snaps all the time and want to enjoy any of the benefits I mentioned above, then go for it!

But if you use it for the basic features, then the regular version of Snapchat is enough.

Conclusion

While this gamification of social media can be a fun time pass for adults, growing teens often become too obsessed with these.

Since the launch, there has been news about how this feature made younger users more anxious. It creates a ranking system among friends, and it can lead to some bitter experiences.

So, if you are a young user reading this or someone who is very sensitive about competition in relationships, think carefully before you sign up for it. Cause hey! No feature is cooler than your solid peace of mind.

And every friend, no matter how quirky they are, are your friends after all!
